MAHAKALA PH Saudade Release Campaign Design 2021

This was a competitive project. I and other artists had to create our own designs for a new release that MAHAKALA Music was making (the Park Hill Saudade album). We were told to make a poster, magazine, case cover, and CD design. My design did not get chosen, but I heard that it had been one of the client's favorites. The client had told us what he was thinking when he and his partner made their music and I wanted that to resonate in the design I made. The songs they created were impromptu and they played them how they felt it. When I listened to the music itself, it was clear that there were moments of excitement and then the song would become somber and almost melancholy. I wanted these elements to be evident in my color choices. I used gray and black in order to insinuate the melancholy feel while I used the brighter colors like blue, orange, and red to represent those moments of excitement and happiness.
